Physician Executive Coaching
The behavioral competencies needed to be a great physician are very different than those required to be a great executive leader. Physicians are trained to rely on objective analysis, make quick judgments, make independent decisions and then to move on. They may also have a tendency to focus on the urgent as opposed to the important.
Working along side the physician executive, an O'Brien Group Principal inserts key leadership practices directly into the executive's daily challenges and live business issues. They attend team meetings and make observations much like an athletic coach would do by watching a key player during the game. Behavior that is getting in the way of critical work is called out and alternative approaches introduced. The work is focused on "changing the mind" of how the physician has heretofore thought and, therefore, acted.
